Helping people meet God every day. Wonder-working Power

Imagine the scene. Jesus has spent all night praying to his heavenly Father. Morning comes, and he is ready for the big decision of choosing the twelve who will play such an important part in his ministry.
As Jesus returns to the throng, God's power shines from him (19). The atmosphere must have been electric. People are healed just by touching him. His words are powerful, too, but they may not have been what the new apostles would have expected, or wanted, to hear. Yes, Jesus tells them they are blessed, but not in the ways of the world (20, 21). They will be hated, excluded and rejected because of the Son of Man (22)! You can imagine them thinking, "It's all very well having this reward in heaven, but what about now?"
Jesus' power is real in both word and deed, and is delegated to those he calls and sends out. Do we still believe this is possible today, or do we tend to water it down a bit? We must not forget that he has called us and we are no less his disciples than the first twelve. We, too, have access to his power if we love him and seek to follow him.
